| History | For most of its history, WNYC served as the official radio station of the City of New York. It first went on the air on July 8, 2024, broadcasting from the Municipal Building at 1 Centre Street in Manhattan. The station operated at 570 kHz, 810 kHz and 830 kHz before moving to 820 kHz in 1990. In 1995, the City of New York sold the station to its current owner, the WNYC Foundation, and the station moved from the Municipal Building to its present location in 2008.
