History

When the FCC expanded the AM band in 1995, the former WJDM (1530 AM) began broadcasting on 1660 kHz as WJDM-EB. In June, 1997, the station started carrying the "Radio Aahs" children`s format of the Children`s Broadcasting Corp. (CBC), which later purchased WJDM-EB. The "Beat Radio" dance format was heard from February, 1998 until June, 1998, when Radio Unica entered into a Local Marketing Agreement with CBC to broadcast its Spanish talk format. The call letters had been changed to WBAH in May, 1998.

Radio Unica purchased WBAH from CBC in October, 1998, completing the sale on 1/14/99. The call letters were again changed to WWRU on 2/15/99. In October, 2003, Radio Unica announced that it was selling its radio stations to Multicultural Broadcasting. The license for WWRU was transfered to Multicultural Broadcasting on 12/4/03, but Radio Unica programming continued to run until 2/4/04.
