History | Operating for most of its history as WEVD, the story of this frequency dates back to 1926, when WJBV signed on at a frequency of 640kc. WSOM, broadcasting from New York`s Hotel Somerset, took over in 1927, and later that year, WEVD began operating with socialist and labor oriented programming. WEVD was purchased by the Jewish Daily Forward in 1931, and it moved to 1330kc in 1941. Beginning in 1928, WEVD shared its frequency with WBBR, a station run by the Jehovah`s Witnesses. In 1981, WEVD was purchsed by Salem Media, which changed the call letters to WNYM and featured a Christian religion format. The Forward then consolidated its programming on its FM station, 97.9Mhz. In 1984, WNYM bought out WPOW, the successor to WBBR, enabling it to broadcast full-time on 1330. Radio Vision Cristiana bought the station in 1989, renaming it WWRV and introducting the current Spanish religious format.
